This agenda is for the Wednesday 10/19/11 meeting of Hidden Village Condo. Association. It includes a proposal to shut down the website posted below. The only reason given is that the President does not like the person who created and maintains it at no charge for the Association. The "HiddenVillage.org" sign by the entrance, was already removed without warning.

The latest slander against me: I called someone who posted their apt. for rent on the bulletin board. I left a message asking why she had not posted on the Condo website. I wanted to know if there was a problem. She said that she tried the website, but that the request was never answered. I gave her my direct personal email address, and also put another address on the website to avoid that forwarding problem, again. She thought she did something wrong with by posting on the board. I assured her three times, that she did nothing wrong, and thanked her for contacting me. She said she would email me before the end of the month (3 days of Sept.) My wife, who is a board member, forwarded this email to me from the President of the board to the management company for the next meeting: "Agenda Item: Shutting down the Hiddenvillage.org website. We apparently have a new problem dealing with Mr. Lerner. My understanding is an owner who wants to rent their unit put their notice & phone number on the bulletin board. It is further my understanding that Mr. Lerner obtained the number contacted this lady and advised her she couldn’t post to the public bulletin board and that it had to be posted on the we

bsite. The term being used is that he harassed her to place the notice on the website. This lady apparently advised Juan about this after Mr. Lerner’s phone call to her. Obviously, other board members are not at all happy about this. Please have this on the agenda for the next meeting."

I was peeking inside the new old-fashioned Barber-Shop here in Lake Mary, Florida today. The barbers by the pool table were waving for me to come in. I took off my hat to show my bald head. They started laughing.

To all the people who can't read this because they are not on Face-Book: Face to face, face news, face TV, face telephone, face VCRs, face microwave ovens, face the Internet, face DVRs, face smart phones, Face life, FaceBook. Face it, FaceBook is being able to come home again and face your life.

I received a current Wendy's advertisement in my postal mail box. It has a picture of Dave Thomas, when he was alive many years ago. It stated that Dave is introducing a new sandwich. Does this sound Kosher?

I went to the bank today, and then discovered that they are Italian, and not open today due to Columbus.

I have been planting the many cactus petals that have been wacked or run over by the landscapers the past weeks from Elanor cactus.

Asparagus Burger recipe

Ingredients (Serves 4-6)

8 cloves garlic
12 oz. fresh asparagus
1 tablespoon dry basil
1 tablespoon dry parsley
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1/3 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1/3 cup freshly grated Pecorino Romano cheese
1 cup bread crumbs (unseasoned)
1 large egg
2-3 tablespoons lightly flavored oil (olive oil or grape seed oil)

Directions
Roughly chop and dice the garlic. Remove the woody stems off of the base of the asparagus. Chop the rest of the asparagus into ½ in. pieces.
In large stockpot or deep dish, boil the cut asparagus in enough water to cover, about 12-15 minutes.
Meanwhile, combine the garlic and all the seasonings and cheese in a large mixing bowl.
When the asparagus is done, drain it and allow to cool. Once cooled, add it to the mixing bowl and then add the egg.
Using your hands, mix and squeeze the asparagus into the eggs, bread crumbs and other ingredients. Shape into patties.
In a large sauté pan, heat the oil. Once it is hot, add the patties but do not crowd the pan. If you don’t have enough space, do the frying in two batches.
Fry on each side for about 3-4 minutes or until very brown on each side. Do not turn more than once on each side.

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (AP) — The software testers at Aspiritech are a collection of characters. Katie Levin talks nonstop. Brian Tozzo hates driving. Jamie Specht is bothered by bright lights, vacuum cleaners and the feel of carpeting against her skin. Rider Hallenstein draws cartoons of himself as a DeLorean sports car. Rick Alexander finds it unnerving to sit near other people.

This is the unusual workforce of a U.S. startup that specializes in finding software bugs by harnessing the talents of young adults with autism.

Traits that make great software testers — intense focus, comfort with repetition, memory for detail — also happen to be characteristics of autism. People with Asperger's syndrome, a mild form of autism, have normal to high intelligence and often are highly skilled with computers.

Aspiritech, a nonprofit in Highland Park, Ill., nurtures these skills while forgiving the quirks that can make adults with autism unemployable: social awkwardness, poor eye contact, being easily overwhelmed. The company's name plays on the words "Asperger's," ''spirit" and "technology."

Clients, nine companies in Aspiritech's first two years, have been pleased.

"They exceeded my expectations," said Dan Tedesco of Shelton, Conn.-based HandHold Adaptive, which took a chance on Aspiritech to test an iPhone application. "There is a pride in their product you don't usually see in this type of work."

Aspiritech was founded by Moshe and Brenda Weitzberg after their son, Oran, now 32, was fired from a job bagging groceries. Oran was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome when he was 14. He now works at Aspiritech.

"He went from failing at bagging groceries to being one of the best software testers on our team," said Brenda Weitzberg.

The Weitzbergs modeled Aspiritech on a successful Danish company called Specialisterne, or "the Specialists." Specialisterne also employs software testers with autism. Its satisfied clients include Oracle and Microsoft.

Other companies in Belgium, Japan and Israel are either hiring or training adults with autism as software testers.

This year, Aspiritech projects $120,000 in revenue, with 60 percent coming from donations and 40 percent from clients. The Weitzbergs hope to raise the client revenue to 50 percent next year.

"There have been a couple of attempts in the U.S. and Aspiritech is the one that's making it," said Scott Standifer of the University of Missouri's Disability Policy and Studies office and the organizer of a national conference on adults with autism and employment.

The exact unemployment rate for adults with autism is unknown, but it's thought to be high, Standifer said.

"We don't know how many adults have autism and, because of that, we don't know their rate of unemployment," he said. "We do know from tracking adults just emerging from high school that they are having great difficulty finding jobs."

A 2009 U.S. Department of Education survey found the employment rate for young adults with autism was on par with that for deaf-and-blind young adults, and well below the rate of those with blindness alone or learning disabilities or traumatic brain injuries, Standifer said.

Since Asperger's syndrome didn't become a standard diagnosis until the early 1990s, many of Aspiritech's software testers were adults when they first learned they were on the autism spectrum. They are pioneers, the first generation of adults with Asperger's.

Katie Levin, 35, was diagnosed in her late 20s with Asperger's. As a child, she'd been labeled as mentally ill.

"Asperger's is not a mental illness," she said. "I definitely feel like I identify with the Asperger's community more than I did with the mental illness community." She tests software and runs Aspiritech's Facebook page and Twitter feed.

Rick Alexander, 24, another tester, has a degree in computer science from the Illinois Institute of Technology and completed an internship developing software for the city of Chicago.

"I have a lot of social anxiety. I don't like meeting new people," said Alexander, who was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome as a teenager. Like many of the other testers, he lives with his parents.

He'd rather be a software developer than a tester, he said. But selling himself in a job interview is "very difficult for me."

"When you're a child, the school is very concerned with you, the state is very concerned with you," Alexander said. Organizations help adults with autism, he said, but "you need to approach them and for somebody with Asperger's syndrome, it's very difficult to do the approaching."

Most research dollars have gone toward studying children with autism while adults have been neglected, said Molly Losh, an autism researcher at Northwestern University.

"Our vocational structure really isn't suited to funnel people with autism into the workforce," Losh said. Aspiritech "is a magnificent and innovative venture," she said.

Many businesses hire offshore companies to test software. Mike Mestemaker, director of engineering for Schaumburg, Ill.-based ISI Telemanagement Solutions, chose Aspiritech because it offered competitive rates but was based in the United States.

"They dove right in and worked very quickly," Mestemaker said. "They were very detail-oriented people. They really got the job done."

ISI was happy with the work and has hired Aspiritech for a second project, he said.

Aspiritech provides meaningful work (pay is $12 to $15 an hour) in a relaxed environment where bosses never yell if you're late and nobody minds if you need to be alone for a while. What's more, the company is building social skills. The software testers, who are in their 20s and 30s, are trained to work together and they take part in organized outings: miniature golf, bowling, eating at a restaurant.

"We want to improve social skills among people who tend to be socially isolated," said Marc Lazar, Aspiritech's autism specialist. For many of them, software testing is not going to be their lifelong career, Lazar said, "but while they're here they're going to improve their job skills and they're going to learn what kind of behavior is expected on the job and they're going to have more to put on their resumes."

Patricia Caplan, Chantri Waddoups, Sharon Tanzer Kirschner, Sharla Kogel Hearne, Teresa Clementi, Robert Lemenze, Stephanie Bayer Franz, John Holliday, Robin Matheson, Wendy Weatherington, Ryan Collin, Margo Vacca Kemp, Shelly Betancourt, Brit M Dauzat, Alan Da Costa, and Brianne Fulton value me.

Although I have been in Florida since 2005, I have finally been in a Bealls and Tuesday-Morning for the first time. The first is a discount store reminiscent of Alexanders. The later is Home Furnishings close-out store. They are part of my big-box brisk-walk-daily program. I purchased a 6' HDMI cable for $4! and a GE 4-LED light strip for $5!

Frustration is maintaining a brisk walk in Bed Bath & Beyond. This would include Home Depot and Staples.

NT is neuro-typical like you and most people are. (not Aspie) Aspies are accustomed and more comfortable doing things in solitary. Social interaction is what we are greatly challenged with, and therefore are uncomfortable in inter-personal relations. (they are LESS "fun") Aspies do not get "Clued in" It is the difference and advantage of not doing something in solitary that Aspies wonder about all the time. You NTs accept it as a paradym.

I greatly enjoy, appreciate, and seek out friends, like you or SG. Unfortunately, people often misunderstand me. They often leave me, or I must leave them (such as in the case with SG). I have therefore led a very lonely life (until FB) My wife loves me, and wanted us to get married. I personalty did not understand the logic. It feels good to have someone who cares about me, around. This is one person we can develop a relationship with, that is so hard to do with others. She has the empathy that is necessary. I am seeking to understand how she understands the value of marriage.

LMH: "It fascinates me to think that neurotypical people can't all just take a step back and think to themselves, yes, to most people that might seem like a strange question but it is NOT for an Aspie. And in the world of spectrum disorders, many of the people I work with (who are in their early 20s), have a difficult enough time connecting with a person in conversation let alone maintaining friendships or intimate relationships (and intimacy is more than sex, Stephen). Many Aspies have so much difficulty in interpersonal relationships that even having a friend is challenging. Think of having challenges with even having friends and then think how much of you goes into an intimate relationship. And when so much of the life of an Aspie is trying to navigate a neurotypical world in what others feel is "socially appropriate", the fact that Andrew even asks these questions to get an honest opinion is something I look up to." When you've met a person on the spectrum, that's all you've done, met ONE person on the spectrum.

LMH: Stephen, that is awesome that you understand a little bit more about the Aspie perspective. And yes, it's hard for ANY of us to find someone and be lucky enough to be loved. Temple Grandin describes autism and spectrum disorders as feeling like an "anthropologist on Mars" which is so close to your oven mitt comment that I love it.

AIL Yes LMH, Stephen Gyetko's oven mit analogy was excellent. He comes up with good ones.

I drive to a big box stores or mall to walk briskly for about 45 minutes. I try to do this daily because I believe the exercise is beneficial to my health. It is always too hot and humid outside here in Florida. I do not have money for a Health club, or insurance. I am indefinitely unemployed. I am otherwise at home 24/7 except when I grocery shop. My entertainment is seeing the change of retail entities and products.

LMH It's fascinating to me that I didn't know what an "Aspie" was until I looked it up. I have a master's degree in Special Education and I do 1:1 community coaching (habilitation and socialization) with young adults with ASD's. Is this a new or recent term? CMLO: I'm surprised they aren't teaching AS...been years since I did undergrad (initially Special Ed, but then switched) I'm guessing some programs lump all Autism Spectrum diaga into one pile which is unfortunate. To my statement in the Syosset 1970s Facebook group of "Wow, even Apple has lost Jobs!" Hal Berenson:

I'll bring this to some measure of relevance to Syosset. SHS was one of the first high schools in the country to give students access to computers. While my friends and I were playing around on ASR33 teletypes connected to BOCES LIRICS' DECsystem-10, Bill Gates and Paul Allen were doing the same (the Lakeside School in Seattle had its own DECsystem-10). That is what got us all hooked on computers. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak followed a slightly different route but ended up in a similar place. Many SHS alumni went on to careers in computing, and we've made some major contributions (although obviously nothing on the same scale as these other guys). In particular Jobs and Gates became the two key leaders of the computer industry as we transitioned to "personal computing", and just as importantly the two most important industrialists of the baby boom generation. I went to work for Bill, but have no less respect for Steve's importance to our industry and our generation. When Bill decided to move his full-time focus from Microsoft to charity work I was saddened that I wouldn't be working with him but happy for what it meant for the world overall. But Steve being forced from his CEO role at Apple over health reasons saddens me tremendously. It is, as Stephen Gyetko points out, pretty ominous and I am taking it quite personally. And so in the spirit of this group, you really know you're from Syosset if you used the ASR33s when there was one each in adjoining closets on the second floor of the E wing (around the corner from Mr. T's) when the teachers were clueless (or even scared) about what to do with them and everyone else in the school thought you were nuts; And you can trace that experience to the news of the day.

Outstanding Hal Berenson I could not have wrote better. I spent much time at the computer lab at Syosset, and went on for a college degree in programming. I still have the punch tapes to prove it!

I am surprised and puzzled by my sister. She never replied to my emails and messages for months, joins Facebook for the first time ever in July 2011, only has 3 friends, and it does not include me or accept my FB friend request. Then I am told by someone else that she's not on anymore. She decided it was too much and didn't want to be on.

I enjoy my daily sugar-cream water flavored with coffee.

8/17/11 The first person ever, came up to me, to compliment my Newsletter and Website that was started around June 2011. This happened after tonight's Hidden Village Board Meeting. My wife is on the Board. I was given absolutely no recognition whatsoever, as usual. People do not even make eye contact, say hi, or know that Margaret is my wife. I have experienced this treatment for most of my life, not that I'm happy with it.

I have received one of the most fantastic long-awaited news items of my life! I am extremely happy and exited! I have been jumping, yelling, running around, and waving my hands. Fluffy is traumatized. I can not explain publicly here what this news is. Please just be happy for me. This day was possibly the best and most important day of my life. This life changing event is vindication and empowerment of my life-long struggle.

I am not going to Disney world (it is $85 admission + $14 parking.) This is my 1/3 birthday, the summer solstice, longest day of the year, and the first day of Summer. My mid-term exam is tonight. I am the Graphic Designer formally known as &rew. This is my logo as of 5/9/11. My name of A. Lerner is incorporated into the phrase "Alternative Reasoning". This phrase also defines how an ASpie mind functions. I am an ASpie. We try to put pieces of different information together to reason out a puzzle. This is represented by the alternative upper and lower case letters. The colors or divisions represent pieces, and how they are different, but still fit in together to solve the pie chart. These ASPIE PIE PIEces, because of their differences, create a peace sign. AS PIEces of a PIE, all of these PIEces of information fit in together. We strive to get along with others who operate differently. Understanding and tolerating each-others differences, are AS PIEces of a PIE, coming together in PEACE. Notice that that the name ASpie is incorporated into the phrase "AS PIEces". Both the peace sign and Andrew Lerner were established on 2/21/58. Piece and peace are Homophones. Many ASpies love playing with letters and words, which is hyperlexic. They are best suited as as a Graphic Designer. As you can see, that is stated in my logo. Aspies are emotionally challenged. This is represented by the two dots and a horizontal line. It represents an ASpie face. My name has been put together to show how I try to fit in and learn in this society of mostly NTs. By fitting in the "A", that represents me (Andrew), into the bigger family of society (Lerner), I become a learner. This also incorporates my first initial and last name into the phrase "A Learner". By fitting in, I create "learner" from "Lerner." I end up standing out. This is just as pieces of a pie fitting in to create a peace sign. Bipolar disorder

Bipolar disorder is technically a type of depression, but is quite different than the mental image you may have of typical depressive symptoms. Bipolar depression, as the name suggests, consists of two opposite behaviors that somehow co-exist in the same person. There is no cure for this condition, but it does respond well to treatment. It will require management throughout a person's life, much like heart disease or diabetes.
The key feature of bipolar disorder is severe mood swings from deep depression to mania. The lows experienced are very similar to major depression. Depressive episodes commonly last about 14 days. A quick upward shift in mood marks the beginning of a manic episode. Along with this improvement in mood comes increased energy, decreased need for sleep and a burst of productivity. This may be accompanied by a feeling of euphoria. Sufferers of bipolar disorder rarely seek treatment during manic episodes.
However, while the patient may sense productivity and energetic activity, others view it as being dangerous and out of control. Manic episodes usually include becoming very talkative, extremely excitable and active to the point of exhaustion. There is also a tendency to engage in risky behaviors.
Bipolar disorder is a complex condition that is remarkably difficult to diagnose. People often endure this condition for years before being properly diagnosed. Although the cause is related to brain chemistry, the disorder tends to run in families, indicating a genetic link. The disorder is recurrent--meaning that once a person experiences a manic episode, there's a 90 percent chance they will experience another one.
The primary treatment for bipolar disorder is medication. A combination of medications seems to be the most effective treatment. Antidepressants, anti-psychotics, mood stabilizing agents and anti-convulsants are commonly prescribed to stop the wide mood swings that characterize this disorder. During a lifetime of treatment, it is expected that medications will need to be adjusted or changed altogether. One single prescription is unlikely to work the same way all the time. Psychotherapy is used in some cases, but is rarely effective without medication.
If left untreated, bipolar disorder can be particularly dangerous. From 15 to 17 percent of untreated cases end in suicide (compared to about 10 percent of untreated major depression sufferers).
Like most forms of depression, there is nothing that the individual sufferer did to deserve or cause bipolar disorder. There should be no stigma or embarrassment attached to having the condition. The most important thing is to seek treatment and begin managing the disorder as soon as possible.

The following are criteria for Aspergers that have been excerpted from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV):

Qualitative impairment in social interaction, as manifested by at least two of the following:
- Marked impairments in the use of multiple nonverbal behaviors such as eye-to-eye gaze, facial expression, body posture, and gestures to regulate social interaction
- Failure to develop peer relationships appropriate to developmental level
- A lack of spontaneous seeking to share enjoyment, interest or achievements with other people, (e.g., by a lack of showing, bringing, or pointing out objects of interest to other people)
- lack of social or emotional reciprocity
Restricted repetitive & stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests and activities
The disturbance causes clinically significant impairments in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.
There is no clinically significant general delay in language
There is no clinically significant delay in cognitive development or in the development of age-appropriate self-help skills, adaptive behavior (other than in social interaction) and curiosity about the environment in childhood.

You’ve probably known quite a few. Maybe they are even in your family. There’s that brilliant professor you had in college who looked at his desk the entire time he was talking to you and whose office was so overflowing with stuff there was nowhere for a visitor to sit. How about your brother-in-law the mechanic, whose work is superb but who insists on describing in minute detail exactly what he did to fix your car — and doesn’t seem to notice all your hints that you’re trying to leave already! What about your uncle or cousin or the sister of your best friend who is so socially awkward that you squirm with discomfort whenever they show up at an event, wondering what they’ll do next to embarrass themselves?
They are often physically awkward and socially tactless. They seem to be perfectionists but often live in chaos. They know more about some obscure or highly technical subject than seems possible — and go on and on about it. They may seem to lack empathy, and are often accused of being stubborn, selfish, or even mean. They can also be extremely loyal, sometimes painfully honest, highly disciplined and productive in their chosen field, and expert at whatever they decide to be expert at. They are the Aspies, adults with Asperger’s Syndrome.
The number of adults with Aspergers is still difficult to determine. The syndrome wasn’t even officially acknowledged in the DSM until 1994, even though it was described by Hans Asperger in 1944. The result? Many older adults weren’t diagnosed — or helped — as children. Teachers found them exasperating because they were so disorganized and uneven in their academic performance despite often being clearly bright. Other kids considered them weird and either bullied them or ignored them. As adults, they are only now discovering that there is a reason they’ve had difficulties with relationships their entire lives.
For many, having a diagnosis is a relief.
“I never could figure out what other people want,” says Jerome, one of my Aspie clients. “People seem to have some kind of code for getting along that is a mystery to me.”
Jerome is a brilliant chemist. He has the respect of his colleagues but he knows that he’s not well-liked. The finely tuned intuition he uses to do research breaks down completely in relationships.
“I know I’m well-regarded in my work. As long as we’re talking about a research problem, everything is fine. But as soon as people start doing that small talk stuff, I’m lost. It’s good to have a name for it. At least I know there’s a reason.”
Jerome is now starting to put the same intelligence he uses in his lab to learning better social skills. For him, it’s an academic problem to solve. Like many other Aspies, he wants to get along and have friends. He’s highly motivated to learn the “rules” most people take for granted. He just never understood what those rules were. Having the diagnosis has given him new energy for the project.
The press coverage of the syndrome of the last several years has been very helpful as well.
“I was working on a highly technical engineering project with a new guy last week. In the middle the morning, he put down his pencil, looked at me and said, “You have Aspergers, don’t you.”
Ted was explaining a recent encounter to me. “I got real nervous, thinking he was going to leave.”
“What did you say?” I asked.
“Well. I know now that’s my problem so I just said he was right. And you know what he said? He said, ‘I thought so’ and told me I could relax because he works with another guy who has the same thing. We had a great morning solving the problem. That wouldn’t have happened even a few years ago. I would have upset him somehow without understanding why. He would have gone back to his company thinking I was some kind of jerk. Things are just better now that there’s some understanding out there.”
Having the diagnosis has also saved more than a few marriages. Now that the kids are grown, Judy was ready to separate from her husband of 27 years when she first came to therapy.
“If Al and Tipper Gore could do it after 40 years of marriage, I figured I could manage it too. I don’t know what their problems were but I was just exhausted. I felt like I’d been single-parenting our two kids forever. Actually, I felt like I had three kids. Most of my friends couldn’t figure out what I saw in a guy who could only talk about one thing and who would rudely disappear in the middle of a social evening. He never seemed to be able to understand any of our feelings. Our finances were always a mess because he would lose track of bills. Yes, he was really sweet to me in our private life and he’s always been great about doing things like building the kids a tree house — that was really, really cool. But it became harder and harder to see that as a fair exchange for all the times I had to smooth things over because of something he did or didn’t do that bothered someone.
Then my daughter emailed me an article about Aspergers. It changed everything. I realized he wasn’t deliberately making life so hard. He couldn’t help it. As soon as he took an Aspie quiz online, he saw it was true. He does love us. He didn’t want the family to fall apart. He went right out and found a therapist who works with adults with Aspergers. He’s far from perfect but he’s honestly trying. He’s even apologized to the kids for not being more involved while they were growing up. I can’t ask for more than that.”
A diagnosis is primarily used to drive treatment decisions and to make it easier for clinical people to communicate with each other. But in cases like these, it can also be an enormous comfort to the individual and their families. As long as someone with Aspergers feels like they are being blamed or criticized for something they don’t even understand, they can only be defensive or bewildered. When the people around them feel offended or disrespected, they can only get exasperated, argue, or write them off. But when the thing that makes a relationship difficult is named and understood, it becomes a problem that can be worked on together. That shift can change everything.

Persecution Complex Symptoms

"Persecution complex has symptoms that show a person believes that others are out to get or hurt them in some way. It is utterly ungrounded in reality and at times exaggerated paranoia, but it reflects a belief that everyone has it in for them. It may be seen when the person interacts in normal ways and then over-reacts to perceived wrongs. For example, one person might see the affected individual as going to a restaurant, eating lunch and leaving and going to a library, checking out a book and then going to the dry cleaners to pick up some clothing. What the person with the complex sees is entirely different. They might see a waitress out to get their money by enticing them to get more of the expensive food on the menu and that the waitress purposely delivered their meal late and got the order wrong just to irritate them. Then they may feel that when they went to the library, the library personnel purposely did not offer to help them while they were perusing the shelves and that they chose to check out other patrons before them. After leaving there they may feel people who parked in the handicap spots at the dry cleaners are not really handicapped and they have it in for handicapped people and that's why they took all the spaces and it upsets the person because they have to park far away. After going in to pick up the dry cleaning, and being told it isn't ready yet, they assume it is because the workers did not like them and purposely delayed cleaning their garments and did others first. Of course in 99% of the examples above, nothing could be further from the truth, but the person persists in the belief that everyone does not like them and wants to make their life miserable. Oakland, Calif. – Americans are in deep denial about our wealth inequality. In the US, the richest fifth have 84 percent of the wealth – and most of us don’t consider this to be a problem. In fact, we don’t even guess at the distribution close to correctly. In a recent poll by Duke’s Dan Ariely and Harvard’s Michael Norton, respondents thought that lucky fifth has more like 59 percent of all US wealth and favor them owning just 32 percent of it.
But our blindness to the amount of inequality and its effects on our society isn’t pure ignorance or apathy. It’s at least partly a function of how we talk about the issue. We say things like “the wealth gap” and “bridge the gulf” – phrases that obscure some basic truths about inequality.
It’s automatic and necessary to explain the world in metaphors – to describe abstractions by comparing them to concrete things. In the case of inequality, we’re characterizing the differences between the rich and the poor as though they’re objects affixed on opposite sides of a chasm. But viewing inequality as an economic canyon makes it hard to argue for policies that might actually diminish it. A canyon, after all, is a natural formation.
“Gap” isn’t a stirring call to action; it’s a clothing store. It may provide a ready image of where we are, but it says nothing about how we got here. Studies of cognition and decades of experience tell us that when we don’t provide an explanation, our audiences will fill one in themselves.
Poor is "bad," wealthy is "good"In this case, the cause-effect narrative for our “gap” seems to go like this: Those who are poor have chosen this condition. Whether it’s character flaw (lazy bum), moral failure (welfare queen), inherent defect (the bell curve), or all of the above, this story tells us what have-nots have not is ambition or intelligence.
It’s no accident that we routinely refer to the wealthiest as the “top” and the rest as the “bottom.” In English, good is up and bad is down. That’s why we say, “things are looking up” and “she’s down in the dumps.” No wonder we pull ourselves up (not forward or along) by our bootstraps. Calling certain folks upper class implies they are worth more not just materially but also morally.

Inequality isn't an individual choiceIf being rich or poor is understood as the result of differential effort, then we can conclude each category is simply a lifestyle choice. Inequality is then a sign that our economy is doing exactly what it should – rewarding the deserving and motivating the lazy. And the line of reasoning continues: Since there’s nothing wrong with this, there's nothing anybody should do about it.
We use this “gap” language all the time. And then we wonder why the statistics we cite, the graphs we generate, and the examples we offer of widening inequality don’t raise the eyebrows, let alone the ire, of many in our audiences. Using this language tacitly degrades individuals and makes current conditions seem natural. By employing it, we blind the public to the fact that inequality isn't an individual choice. Rather, it’s the direct result of the rules financial and political elites have crafted for their own enrichment.

In one economy, inequality hurts allA wealth divide further implies we have two separate economies, with the rich on one side of the gap and everyone else on the other. If we believe the wealth of a few has absolutely no relationship to the deprivation of others, then there is no solution for inequality. Because there’s no problem.
This is not just a false assumption but also a dangerous one. All of us engage with one another, producing, consuming, saving, and investing in our one economy. But the wealthy have managed to make off with the lion’s share. When wealth connotes moral goodness, it’s easy to believe that these riches are just desserts. As Dan Quayle argued against progressive taxation, “Why should the best people be punished?” Yet history shows that some people are unfathomably rich because others are inexcusably poor.
So how do we get the word out about economic inequality? Not just how much of it exists, but also where it comes from, and why it’s destroying the long-term stability of American society and the proper functioning of our economy?
Make no mistake: Impoverishing certain populations is, in fact, derailing our entire economy. As we suppress real wages for the majority, we shrink purchasing power and with it consumption and then available employment. Without money to maintain our homes and care for our families, we have less and less reason to follow the tacit agreements of civil society.
Not a 'gap,' but a 'barrier'Instead of a “gap between rich and poor,” we’re far better served calling it a “barrier.” A barrier connotes a big, imposing wall behind which a few can hoard the goodies, while those on the other side are left wanting. When you barricade yourself in, you keep others out. Instead of asking to “bridge the divide,” let’s insist on dismantling the obstacles that keep too many from the gains produced of their own hard work.
The metaphor of inequality as a barrier, wall, or other obstruction highlights several critical truths about our economy. It tells us these objects are man-made. This conveys that inequality is not some God-given, inevitable, natural wonder. We have built these barriers, and we can bring them down. In other words, there’s another way our economy can be structured if we elect and work for it.
Deconstructing barriersWe can start by deconstructing the foundations of these barriers – spotty prenatal care, no universal preschool, lead-painted walls, and cheap, accessible junk food. We can continue by combating overcrowded classrooms managed by a revolving cast of untrained teachers. We can improve the recreational and after-school choices for children. And we can work to eliminate the neighborhood violence, dirty air, and contaminated water that form the perfect blockade to adult success.
Crafting our inequality narrative from this metaphor, we would use phrases like this: Inequality holds people back from contributing to our nation. It sets in place obstacles not only to success, but survival. Trapping some Americans in poverty, policies that promote inequality exclude certain groups from making a living, no matter how much they work. The rules we’ve crafted block access to resources and opportunities, and prevent huge numbers of us from participating meaningfully in our economy.
Let’s have our language lay the blame where it belongs – on the obstructions erected by decades of greed and concentrated wealth and power, not on the people who find themselves trapped on the wrong side of them. This is America. Don’t fence me in.

30 years ago today, Programming and Systems Incorporated operated a school in New York, NY. I was enrolled in the Computer Programming and Data Processing Technology program from February through September, 1981. I earned a diploma for completing the 675 hour course on September 11, 1981.

On June 18, 1992, the Securities and Exchange Commission suspended trading of the common stock of Programming and Systems, Inc., because of information received questioning the accuracy of the Company's financial statements. Following the release of this information, the Company's common stock was delisted by NASDAQ.

November 22, 1996: Irwin Mautner, 63, of Greenwich, was indicted in August in a scheme to defraud the U.S. Department of Education by concealing the high rate of student withdrawals at New York-based Programming and Systems Inc. The scheme was designed to prevent the schools from losing their accreditation, and consequently, their eligibility to receive the federal loans and grants.

From July 1988 through September 1993, PSI schools received federally insured student loans totaling more than $100 million and federal Pell Grant funds totaling more than $41 million, the indictment said.

Since more than half PSI's students dropped out or failed, the true rate would have disqualified the schools for federal grants and loans, prosecutors said. ``He was continuing to draw down the money for those students even though they were withdrawing, and that's where the fraud comes in,'' said Rodger Murphey, a spokesman for the Education Department.

PSI was a publicly traded corporation, which at one time had more than 3.6 million shares of stock outstanding and annual revenues in excess of $31 million. Mautner had previously consented in December 1994 to civil penalties imposed by the Securities and Exchange Commission in connection with false financial statements submitted to the commission.

Mautner pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Akron, Ohio, Tuesday to charges of mail fraud, conspiracy to defraud the Education Department and making a false statement. Each violation carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine.

PSI operated 11 vocational schools in the following cities: Baltimore; Charlotte, N.C., Cleveland; Columbus, Ohio; Flint, Mich.; Indianapolis; Miami; New York; Philadelphia; Southfield, Mich.; and Washington, D.C. The schools closed in 1992 and 1993. In a plea agreement with the government, PSI National Financial Aid Director Ronald Sundick, of Roslyn, N.Y., pleaded guilty Nov. 14 to obstructing a federal audit. By DEE DePASS, Minneapolis Star Tribune. MAPLEWOOD, Minn. - Temple Grandin wants more autistic people in your workplace. If they don't become part of the work force, your company will lose out.

That was the key message from Grandin, an industrial designer and fellow "ASpie" (a term referring to the "autism spectrum") who designed Cargill's slaughterhouses across the United States and Canada.

The noted author, animal scientist drew more than 1,600 corporate executives, state officials and parents to the first annual Autism and Employment Forum at 3M earlier this month.

Cargill, 3M Co., Best Buy and the Autism Society of Minnesota sponsored the event, which hoped to raise awareness in the workplace and improve the hiring rates of people with autism. Only 3 percent of people with autism are currently employed. It used to be that one in 250 people would be diagnosed with autism. Today that number is one in 91. It's more prevalent today than ever, executives said in explaining why they asked Grandin to talk to business leaders.

People with mild autism or Asperger's syndrome are basically "geeks," Grandin said. They have tremendous skills that can help corporations solve problems, grow sales and program a company's ways to greatness, she said.

Silicon Valley, Hollywood, corporate labs and IT departments are often "loaded" with well-paid individuals who live somewhere on the spectrum of autism, Grandin said.

Many just haven't been diagnosed yet, she said, and so don't carry the label of the illness, which is typically characterized by heightened intellect, awkward social skills, black-and-white, literal reasoning, an intolerance of noise and the inability to read facial cues or body language.

But people with the brain disorder also frequently possess a commanding grasp of science, statistics, research and engineering. They make great innovators, engineers, scientists and graphic designers, said Grandin. For example, her ability to think in pictures allows her to "see" every aspect of an industrial machine before she draws it.

"OK, businesses: So why should you hire the ASpie geek? Because they are the ones who will solve the energy crisis," she said. With job coaching and the training of managers, more ASpies can enter the work force and do more than collect a Social Security check each month, she added.

ASpies "can be taught social skills" in the workplace. The key is to be highly specific about which behaviors work. "Don't be subtle," Grandin said. It's not enough to tell the employee that the lunchroom is open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The ASpie worker may interpret that to mean that he is to take a two-hour lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. "Now how long do you think it will be before that worker gets fired?" she quipped.

Instead, tell him that lunch is a 30-minute time slot anytime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., she said. "Be specific." It's not helpful to tell the ASpie worker "not to be rude." Instead, calmly explain that they shouldn't chase that disinterested customer all over the store.

Asperger syndrome: An autistic disorder most notable for the often great discrepancy between the intellectual and social abilities of those who have it.

Asperger syndrome is a pervasive developmental disorder that is characterized by an inability to understand how to interact socially. Typical features of the syndrome also may include clumsy and uncoordinated motor movements, social impairment with extreme egocentricity, limited interests and unusual preoccupations, repetitive routines or rituals, speech and language peculiarities, and non-verbal communication problems.

The syndrome is named for Hans Asperger who in 1944 published a paper that described a pattern of behavior in several young boys who had normal intelligence and language development but who had autistic-like behavior. Hans Asperger (1906-1980) was a pioneering pediatrician in Austria. He headed the play-pedagogic station at the university children’s clinic in Vienna in 1932 and became director of the children’s clinic in 1946. His special interest was in “psychically abnormal” children.

There is no specific course of treatment or cure for Asperger syndrome. Treatment, which is symptomatic and rehabilitation, may include both psychosocial and psycho-pharmacological interventions such as psychotherapy, parent education and training, behavioral modification, social skills training, educational interventions, and/or medications including psycho-stimulants, mood stabilizers, beta blockers, and tricycle-type antidepressants. Common misdiagnoses or multiple diagnoses for Asperger’s include: Depression, Bipolar disorder, ADHD, ODD, OCD – all adjoining to the Autistic Spectrum.

The following five criteria primarily characterize Asperger’s Disorder.
1. A significant, ongoing impairment in social interactions with others, as demonstrated by at least two of the following symptoms:

Significant difficulty in the use of multiple nonverbal behaviors such as the lack of eye contact, few facial expressions, awkward or clumsy body postures and gestures
Failure to develop friendships
Lack of spontaneous seeking to share enjoyment, interests, or achievements with other people (by a lack of showing, bringing, or pointing out objects of interest to other people)
Failure to express appropriate and corresponding social or emotional reactions, such as when conversing or playing with others.

2. Restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, and activities, as shown by at least one of the following symptoms:

A significant and encompassing preoccupation or obsession with one or two restricted topics, that is abnormal either in intensity, subject or focus
Seemingly inflexible adherence to specific routines or rituals that serve little purpose
Repetitive motor mannerisms.
A persistent preoccupation with parts of objects

3. The set of symptoms causes significant impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.
4. There is no significant general delay in language (e.g., single words used by age 2, communicative phrases used by age 3).
5. There is no significant delay in cognitive development (such as reading or math skills) or in the development of age-appropriate self-help skills, behavior, and curiosity about the environment in childhood.

Monday, 2/21/11 was my birthday, and third time there. The name is not appropriate for a restaurant serving exceptional food. I am not interested in having cheesecake either. However, the place is the size of a factory. The entrance is gigantic and elaborate, like a giant upscale department store like Dillards or Nordstrom. Inside it was a monumentally spacious two story high palace. There are painted murals on the ceilings. The tables were made of fine polished stone. It was deserted and quiet, with hundreds of empty seats. We were seated immediately. The only wait was the very long walk down the very long tremendous dining area of this enormous building. My wife, a demanding critic, had her best Old Fashioned in memory. She had the Chicken Madeira, with a late substitution of asparagus instead or the mashed potatoes. It was the best she ever had. it was "to die for". Even I, who avoids it at all costs, and hates it, did not mind it at all! Everything was "perfect". It was, without a doubt, the best meal she had since our wedding at Enzos on 2/2/10. A wedding guest supplied a $25 gift card we used this meal. I had the purest freshest strawberry lemonade ever. In an unusual move, I had the Louisiana Chicken Pasta. It was perfect and divine as well. For the first time ever, a complete role reversal: She finished everything on her plate, and I took home almost half. Service was excellent. The atmosphere was quiet, and beautiful. The total experience was outstanding. The prices are extraordinarily high. If you are unemployed for about 1.25 years like us, do not go without a gift card.

Sometime this year, we taxpayers will again receive another 'Economic Stimulus' payment.
This is indeed a very exciting program, and I'll explain it by using a Q & A format:
    Q. What is an 'Economic Stimulus' payment?
    A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.
    Q. Where will the government get this money?
    A. From taxpayers.
    Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
    A. Only a smidgen of it.
    Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
    A. The plan is for you to use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.
    Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ?
    Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the U.S. economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:
        * If you spend the stimulus money at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China or Sri Lanka
        * If you spend it on gasoline, your money will go to the Arabs.
        * If you purchase a computer, it will go to India , Taiwan or China
        * If you purchase fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico , Honduras and Guatemala
        * If you buy an efficient car, it will go to Japan or Korea
        * If you purchase useless stuff, it will go to Taiwan
        * If you pay your credit cards off, or buy stock, it will go to management bonuses and they will hide it offshore.
    Instead, keep the money in America by:
    1) Spending it at yard sales, or
    2) Going to ball games, or
    3) Spending it on prostitutes, or
    4) Beer or
    5) Tattoos.
(These are the only American businesses still operating in the U.S. )
    Conclusion:
    Go to a ball game with a tattooed prostitute that you met at a yard sale and drink beer all day!

Target Shack

Target has phased out the garden centers in their stores. They are phasing in Fresh produce grocery stores. An agreement has been made with Radio Shack, who now also carries Verizon, to operate mobile phone kiosks within their stores. This will better position Target to compete with Walmart and Best Buy stores. The Bullseye stores seems to be a win-win for both companies. It also fills the void left by Circuit City, Blockbuster, and Sam's Club. They will also carry AT&T and T-Mobile. The logo to the left is clever. It incorporates The newest (radio) R-O logo without using their new moniker of "The Shack". Super Target already has such other stores as Starbucks, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and Wells Fargo Bank inside their buildings. Having a shack inside for the electronics makes sense. It now has a bigger target.

Up until now I have been misinformed! I always thought I was a "fish out of water"! Now I know I am the water itself! Aspies are like a "fish out of water" when it comes to the NT social culture, Aspie's are well advised to not make sales a career. This fishy phrase is an idiom of the English language. Idioms are hard to understand by Aspies, and find them to be idiotic. Under the "wrong" definition of the zodiac signs, I was considered a Pisces(♓), the fish sign. Now I learn I am really Aquarius(♒), the water sign. Therefore, is 2011 the dawning of the age of Aquarius? At least now I know why I hate fish. Now we know that, instead of 12, there are really 13 original signs. The US had 13 original colonies. Should we now change the calendar to 13 months? Can we call that month Asperger? Hans Asperger has done more to explain me than my horoscope. Maybe we should add the Zodiac sign of Aspieus. It would be between Aquarius and Pisces, and include Feb. 21.

I am so amazed at how much energy and happiness can be derived from Biking 10 miles, spending time with friends, and eating fresh food. Imagine how much more productive I could have been most of my life with friends, exercise, and fresh food! It has taken me half a century for me to feel safe on this planet, so I can crack the code on how to make friends, and bring down the shields, now that the artillery fire has subsided, and my Nemesis's have died or been defeated. It is safe now to discover and experience life.

During my life, my greatest friend, the video display, has provided me five of the greatest inventions ever: TV, PC, Internet, WWW, and FaceBook.

I have received MAIL. A reader asked me: "My only questions is, why focus on the Asberger's aspect of your personality as opposed to your entire personality? You are Andrew before you are someone with Asberger's Syndrome."

I do not understand your reply above. An Aspie is someone who has Asperger's Syndrome. As an Aspie, I do not think the same way as NT people do. I explain primarily myself in my Web Log, especially with what I individual write. My primary interest is for the reader outside of me, to discover, know, and understand me. To say that I am an Aspie, helps one understand me through an established general definition. Your difference from me is invisible, and has a significance. Someone's race (like black or white) is noticeable but has no tangible difference in who one is. Every individual has a unique personality. Aspie does not mean or define one's personality. My personality is affected by using the Aspie operating system. I was born that way, as well as being named Andrew. It is who I am. As consequence of this, some commonalities of me and Aspie's are noticeable when compared to NT's. My Blog represents me as an individual first. It has been a very frustrating and lonely life for me. It was for not knowing my specific parameters or restraints when compared with typical people. Finally discovering the name of A.S., for my set of parameters, has given me profound focus, understanding, confidence, and empowerment. I now know my unique gifts of strengths, and defined limits. So as to promote greater understanding, communication, and cooperation of all people, I am driven to make all people, Aspie or NoT, know of our differences. I know myself, and report what I can most identify with in traits of all others. I explain these similarities I have with Aspies, and the differences with NT's. NTs are not all the same, neither are Aspies all the same. I have sets of similarities with "New Yorkers", Jews, and Aspie's. I do not share all traits or characteristics of either of these groups. However to know them, helps to understand me. I explain how a Typical Aspie is like me. I do not try to fit any stereotype of what an Aspie is. I was born a Jew. I do not deny I am a Jew. However, I find religion, such as being Jewish, inconsequential. I am not religious. I am Agnostic. I do not define this as my religious identity or persuasion. It is my purpose for living. That is of seeking knowledge for its own sake. I hope that others, who read the information that I provide, can help them realize their identity and focus, for a more productive and meaningful life. I am very much a unique individual first, and am not easily persuaded to conform. In some ways, it is impossible to conform to Typical people. I do not have a disease. There is nothing to be cured. I love who I am the way I am. This individual thinking is a strong commonality of Aspie's that contrasts us from NTs. I am an Aspie. Get used to it!

Some folks when reading constantly about how you state you are Aspie may think that.Others may think you may use "ASPIE" to label yourself and follow some sort of guidelines that have been established by other information out there posted by researchers, doctors, ASPIES etc.

- OK. Just try to think outside of the ASPIE box once in a while, which I know you do. Find a NT list and try a few of the listed charasteristics. You may surprize yourself!
- Andrew I. Lerner Aspies think outside of the box. Most or typical people are in the proverbial box. Ironically, Aspies also have difficulty with the meaning and use of proverbs. To avoid upsetting people, I often ask them many questions to find out how they would feel, to help guide me of how I should act. They ofen have a hard time answering, or get annoyed by this. Hopefully you can see my continuous frustration. I experience "after guilt", when it is explained by them, after my action, that I upset them. NT "characteristics" have been treated as the standard" It is the different way in which Aspies process information that needs to be made aware of by all Neuros.

It is rare that people have the courage to be so open, honest, blunt and direct to me. People instead get constantly annoyed by me because I do not know.

An Aspie' exclusively depend upon the standard literal written and verbal language to gain all understanding. An Aspie will not know what is on your mind, or how you feel, unless you you explain it exclusively with standard use of the common language. Aspie talks in a brutally honest, blunt, and direct way, which can be interpreted as rude. Aspie is an expert at detail, facts, and remaining within a narrow frame of reference. Therefore the big picture is hard to see. The reverse is true for Neurotypical people.

Aspies are hyperlexic. They are obsessed with language and words in their struggle for communication. They are more closed off from other forms of communication, and therefore dependent on a directly intellectual form. This is a somewhat synthesized or artificial representative tool of words, as opposed to facial expressions or intonation. We hold these words and letters sacred, and its communication very seriously. We do not engage in the blasphemous or careless use of language as does the Neuro-Typical (NT). In our frustration to make sense of our world we depend on literal meanings. We concentrate on the specific details at the cost of seeing the big picture. We study details to find evidence that show us the facts and truth. By doing so, we see things typical people do not notice. This is just as we do not see the subtleties in physical or verbal expressions of NTs. It is for these reasons that I submit for your approval, my logo or and symbol. I call it "ASPIE = ALtERNativE Reasoning" I use it as my Avatar to identify me. If you are an Aspie you are more likely to be able to decipher why, by using your alternative reasoning. With the growing deficit and the recession stagnating, I feel I have a duty to share my beliefs on this, the United States. As the deficit grows with the “Economic Recovery Plan” and the remnants of the “War On Terror.” The ‘Middle Class’ in the United States is slowly shrinking, and with it goes the vast majority of the governments tax revenue. Which means that no matter who is in charge or what ideas they come up with, the deficit will continue to grow, the interest alone is accounting for over $200 Billion dollars annually now.

The lack of taxable income from the nonexistent middle class will drive the vast lower class into a greater sense of poverty, while taxes on the upper class increase to compensate. Once taxes increase enough on the upper class, those who can still afford it will move out of the country to protect their money. The main issue with this comes when the upper 1% of the population that controls 90% of the nations wealth leaves the nation—keep in mind this wouldn’t be limited to CEOs, athletes, actors, and those handful of inventors that created the teat that our society now suckles at, but also many of the doctors, lawyers, engineers and the highly educated residents that hold places of prestige in our economy—This will drive the remaining U.S. population, nearly overnight, into the conditions of a third world country.

Many of the people who are left in the country will migrate en mass to Canada or Central America creating job shortages, homeless problems, and an enormous economic strain on those governments, leaving an even lower population within U.S. borders. The increasingly low number of doctors within the U.S. means that even minor diseases run rampant. Meanwhile stealing what they need to survive, the citizens that are left will overrun the cities, the military will try to control the chaos, soon realizing the cause is just and the need for survival is great. The military will join the citizens and take up arms to revolt against the government that created this situation. The ensuing chaos and anarchy will eventually lead to a Chinese takeover of U.S. soil.

This may seem a harsh exaggeration, but the ‘elected’ powers of this government have been the same bloodlines since the formation of this government, the same monarchies and dynasties our “patriots” fought so hard against, the same people who are creating the increasingly large gap between the upper class and the general population (or should I say Feudalism, the nobleman and the peasants, sound familiar?) they are the same people that raped and slaughtered the native population of this country, the same ones that enslaved Afro-Americans for nearly four hundred years. The same bloodlines that deceived and lied to the Native Americans have been lying and deceiving everyone since then.

The current economic state has been stewing for the past two generations; we have been duped into thinking that the pursuit of the American dream means a lack of general humanity! Who cares if the unemployment rate in our own country is nearing 22% (8-12% that we’re made aware of is typically only the people that are collecting unemployment) if I can save $0.001 a unit to have them manufactured in sweat shops overseas that’s ok. If I can save $3 million a year on labor, who cares if I shut down these factories and lay off thousands of people right here in my city. All it took to stop this was a “Made in USA” sticker when you went shopping, rather than the “Made in Pakistan,” or “Made in Taiwan,” or “Made in Hong Kong.”

I have to question, did we really “win” the American Revolution? Or have the British been behind the scenes the whole time teaching us the illusion of freedom? Another exaggeration I admit, but I feel my point remains clear.

People fight constantly, it’s the Democrats fault, or it’s the Republicans fault. How about the simple fact that it’s both parties faults. Why? Because the parties are really the same thing; face it, it’s the same select bloodlines that have been running this country since the beginning. The same kinds of monarchies and dynasty rulers our patriots fought so hard to break way from, have been masquerading as democratic elections. People say, it’s a democracy if you don’t like it, vote third party: two things wrong with that; there is no third party choice, the popular ‘third party’ now is the “Tea Party” but every elected official from the “Tea Party” has immediately aligned with the Republican Party after taking office. The second is that this country is not a democracy and never has been, it’s a socialist republic. We elect the people into office who the Republican and Democrats parade in front of us, we might get six or eight to choose from but they are all part of the same money, same bloodlines, that have been in power since the beginning, and it’s the same corporations and private sectors that back both parties.

There's no change, no hope, and no relief coming from this government. Our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal, unfortunately with the same regime we tried so hard to escape. The bottom line here is that the people need to realize after nearly two hundred and fifty years, mistakes have been made in the government of this country that cannot be corrected until a shift of power has occurred. We need to remove the two party system, remove the candidates that are back by capitalist corporations that have been outsourcing all of our jobs, so their CEOs can make a couple extra million, and remove the “Patriot Act” in all forms. The government has taken away our inherent right to privacy in the guise of ‘national security’ to tap the phones or in a recent case apply GPS trackers to the cars of individuals with absolutely no cause, meanwhile there’s little to no evidence pointing towards the effectiveness of this act. The government is trying to keep tabs on those individuals either of Middle Eastern decent or the ones who could create trouble for the ruling class, just like they did in the 60s and 70s when MLK, JFK, RFK, Malcolm X, and Medgar Evers were assassinated

The only way to improve the government at this point is to revolt against it.

"Apple records" was a record company founded by the Beatles, with a green Granny Smith Apple logo. Apple is the name of the company which founded iTunes. Those are the Apples. "Beatles for Sale" is finally for sale on iTunes — along with the rest of the Fab Four's albums, from "Please Please Me" to "Revolver" to "Abbey Road." I designed the stamp to the left to commemorate the musical group. I have modified it to be a part of a cover page in my Adobe Illustrator portfolio for my college class. The five cents sticker was applied, and the musical group's logo was replaced. I thought this posting would be applicable. The group existed from 1960 through 1970. Let it be.

AS is a “pervasive developmental disability.” That is, people with AS may often appear or act younger than others of the same age. Children with AS often show delays in multiple areas of functioning, such as gross or fine motor coordination, social skills, or executive functioning (organization, prioritizing, and follow-through). The brains of people with AS seem to process information and sensory stimuli differently than the brains of neurotypical (NT) people. This can be a source of difficulty, but it can also be a strength. For example, people with AS are often very good at noticing visual details or remembering facts, skills that are useful in many professions. On the other hand, the same people may be too perfectionistic, become too obsessed with details, or have so much trouble seeing the big picture that they cannot complete a project.

While respecting the abilities and humanity of people with AS, one should not underestimate their struggles and suffering. A society designed for and dominated by the neurotypical majority (i.e., people who do not have AS) can feel uncongenial and even overwhelming for a person with AS. In particular, living in the United States in the modern information age—in a crowded, complex, industrial society—can pose real challenges for people with AS. American children are generally expected to “play well with others” and grow up fast. Adults are expected to work 40-60 hour weeks under fluorescent lights, to attend meetings, work on teams, rapidly absorb oceans of information, and multi-task. Solitary pursuits such as hunting, farming, or tending a light house are less available today.

People with Asperger Syndrome usually experience:

* Difficulty knowing what to say or how to behave in social situations. Many have a tendency to say the “wrong thing.” They may appear awkward or rude, and unintentionally upset others.
* Trouble with “theory of mind,” that is, trouble perceiving the intentions or emotions of other people, due to a tendency to ignore or misinterpret such cues as facial expression, body language, and vocal intonation.
* Slower than average auditory, visual, or intellectual processing, which can contribute to difficulties keeping up in a range of social settings—a class, a soccer game, a party.
* Challenges with “executive functioning,” that is, organizing, initiating, analyzing, prioritizing, and completing tasks.
* A tendency to focus on the details of a given situation and miss the big picture.
* Intense, narrow, time-consuming personal interest(s) — sometimes eccentric in nature — that may result in social isolation, or interfere with the completion of everyday tasks. (On the other hand, some interests can lead to social connection and even careers. For example, there are children and adults with an encyclopedic knowledge of vacuum cleaners.)
* Inflexibility and resistance to change. Change may trigger anxiety, while familiar objects, settings, and routines offer reassurance. One result is difficulty transitioning from one activity to another: from one class to another, from work time to lunch, from talking to listening. Moving to a new school, new town, or new social role can be an enormous challenge.
* Feeling somehow different and disconnected from the rest of the world and not “fitting in”—sometimes called “wrong planet” syndrome.
* Extreme sensitivity—or relative insensitivity—to sights, sounds, smells, tastes, or textures. Many people outgrow these sensory issues at least to some extent as they mature.
* Vulnerability to stress, sometimes escalating to psychological or emotional problems including low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive behaviors.
* Normal to very high intelligence
* Good verbal skills, including rich vocabularies
* Originality and creativity including a propensity for “thinking outside the box”
* Honesty and ingenuity
* Careful attention to details
* Strong work ethic, with particular attention to accuracy and quality of work
* Special interests that can be tailored toward productive work or hobbies; individuals with AS who have intensive knowledge in one or more specific areas can channel their expertise toward new discoveries and creations in their chosen field
* Keen senses allow some people with AS to see, hear or feel subtle changes in the environment that others do not, resulting in phenomenal powers of observation

Lack of interest in sex - Aspies do have sex, but in general are far less pre-occupied with such activities than NTs. It certainly isn't the main object of life. The sex drive is base instinct, something that drives the animals. The fact that Aspies are less sexually driven than the population at large suggests that they have evolved further from these base animal instinct. Socrates described man as being part animal and part Divine. Following this reasoning, the lack of interest in sex demonstrates an evolutionary step away towards the divine.
Not socially driven - NTs are perfectly happy in social situations. They will sit and talk and drink happily all day. There is a basic chemical/hormonal mechanism at work (Oxytocin, etc.) which in a way is an addiction. This is similar to the social animals, and there is nothing wrong with this - it creates a harmonious society suitable for supporting a large population without conflict. Aspies are chemically/hormonally different. The social interaction does not affect them the same way - thus suggesting they have evolved away from it.
Honesty - Aspies are known for being frank and honest. Individuals with the opposite trait, those who are shady, sly, dishonest, are often regarded as being of lower standing and less advanced. Honesty and integrity are qualities of evolved persons.
Advances in art, music, science - history has shown us that some of the greatest advances have been made by individuals who would probably be classified as Aspergers. For example, Einstein, Mozart. This enhanced ability in certain areas suggests an evolutionary step.
A few common traits of Aspies include

Small talk is difficult
Can become confused in complex social situations
Extremely detail oriented and focused on facts
Ability to focus for extended periods on a specific task
Difficulty interpreting and understanding what others feel and think

A Clockwork Orange Day

You will have an extra hour that day to work on your clocks. 11/7/10 is clockwork day. You experience one whole hour twice. After 1:59am daylight savings time, it will be 1am standard time! I created this artwork during October 2003, for display in my window every 10/31 since then. It is usually on or near this date, that there is clockwork to do. This could give an hour sooner of darkness, which is appropriate in celebration of the scary holiday.

It is Orange day on Sunday 10/31/10. Orange is the popular color for the Halloween holiday, and the color of pumpkins. I superimposed a clock over a pumpkin. This represents two events. Since the clockwork is on something orange, it also implies the name of a motion picture.

There are many parallels of commonalities of both this holiday, and the movie titled A Clockwork Orange. One similarity of the two subjects is the doorbell. In both, the doorbell warns of scary monsters capable of doing evil heinous terrifying crimes. In both, the goblins wore costumes and cosmetics. In the movie, there was a strict policy not to answer the doorbell so as to avoid any criminal perpetrators. The door was opened, not knowing of the monsters and horror and terror to greet them. On the holiday, there is a policy to instead frequently open the door. Instead, it is expected to see goblins and monsters at the door.

Notice, that in the movie, all of the victims were wearing orange. In my home, I have a strict no-answer doorbell policy. This sign I put in the window, may scare people. That is what this holiday is all about. By this posted sign, I am warning people to go away. I will not answer the door. To me, children are monsters, and I want them to stay away from me. I dread this holiday, and want it to go away.

I do keep an orange lava lamp in my window. It goes on at dusk. The Artist to the left or above, is Brian Warner. I enjoy his songs, specifically Beautiful People and Sweet Dreams. His stage name is Marilyn Manson.

Your emotional reaction of humor, excitement, nausea, offense or appropriateness does not concern the Aspie. It is just a Yummy way to remember "Asperger's". It also helps clarify the Aspie's understanding the dual use of the word "buns". At first glance, this only looks like a "big ass" burger! Did you laugh your ass off? This picture helps me aspire to replace the burger with a pie with Photo-Shop. What will that be called?

What could possibly be next for a website that was created in a Harvard dorm room six years ago? Try a Hollywood film, "The Social Network," that opens nationally on Friday and is already prompting discussion of Academy Awards.

Many of the film's details are contested. But the very notion that average moviegoers will go to a film built around the history of a tech company underscores the extent to which Facebook has become a cultural mainstay.

"Facebook is more than just a geek phenomenon. It's very mainstream," said Dave McClure, a former executive at Web payment company PayPal and now an investor in tech start-ups.

The world's largest social network, Facebook allows people to connect with their real-world friends and acquaintances online and do everything from sharing baby photos and personal news to playing electronic versions of Scrabble.

Grandmothers, politicians and rock stars are among the more than 500 million people using the service worldwide. That helped it surpass Google Inc as the website on which Americans spend the most time every month.

Facebook taps into a basic need that people have to connect with each other, said David Weinberger, a researcher at Harvard's Berkman Center for Internet and Society.

"Humans are an innately social species," said Weinberger. "We flock to social networking sites as it if was natural, because it is natural."

Under the direction of Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's 26-year-old co-founder, the company has grown from a service available only to college students into a Web powerhouse, navigating a series of sticky privacy issues along the way.

It has become so big and popular, say industry analysts, that it poses a financial threat to established Internet businesses like Google and Yahoo Inc.

Still privately held, the company will not sell stock to the public any sooner than 2012, Facebook board member Peter Thiel said recently. A brisk market in private shares of Facebook already exists, with the company valued at more than $30 billion, according to recent trades on Sharespost, one such secondary market.

Thiel believes the new movie -- which he said "contains a lot of inaccuracies and petty lies and distortions" -- will nonetheless add to Facebook's influence.

"It is actually going to encourage young Americans to move to Silicon Valley and to try to start great new companies. So I think the movie will do a lot more good than evil," he said.

I'm aware of what is around me sufficiently to avoid hitting anything or being hit. My auditory learning is frequently linked to where I am. So if I re-listen to the same section of a lecture, my mind pops up a memory of where I was on my bicycle when I heard it. Likewise, sometimes if I'm off on the same trail, I'll remember what was being said on the lecture the last time I was through the area. Bess Ortiz cant you get your wife to just read to you?
