Bert Lerner (1915 - 2008)

My Father, and my greatest economic benefactor, died today in Lady Lake Florida. He was 93.5. At left, is a picture of him in his fifties. I am now 50. A quote to remember him by is: "Son of Bitch Bastard". Barack Obama has announced Hillary Rodam Clinton to be Secretary of State. Today marks a new era for my life, and a great new hopeful positive era for the world.

Communication Between Asperger's Adults and their Spouses - Jody Smith

This is an era of transition for adults with Asperger's Syndrome (AS) and their spouses. Until recently, these couples battled unanswered questions and unresolved pain. But because of research and support groups, this can now change.

There is no one personality type for the Asperger's adult. The traits they have in common are neurological in origin, and hamper their ability to read and respond to people around them. But these neurological markers, misunderstood in the past, damage their relationships, particularly if they are married. For the non-Asperger's, or neurotypical, partner there has been a barrier to emotional intimacy throughout the relationship. This may have caused resentment and grief that their AS mate does not love or value them. The neurotypical spouse (NT) may withdraw, or criticize their Aspie, and unhealthy patterns mushroom over years of misunderstanding.

The Aspie may despair that they will always fail in pleasing their mate, and may become hostile or give up trying. The ripples of rejection grow. Enter new research into Asperger's Syndrome. For couples starting out, and for couples who have weathered this storm for years and still want to weather it together, there is hope. Is it easy? Probably not. Is it simple? Well, yes, in some ways.

The NT will need to accept the fact that they must learn a new way of communicating. They'll need to understand that their partner does not "catch" nuances and hints and intimations that a neurotypical individual might. These things are invisible to the Aspie. Not because they have chosen this to be so. But simply because it is so. Facial expressions, small sighs, innuendo ... these are wasted and non-productive. A straightforward and verbally precise manner is needed on the part of the NT.

And, if their AS mate values the relationship, and is willing to listen to this direct communication, life can change for the better. The Aspie needs to heed the NT's feelings, even though the Aspie has no sense of this for themselves. If the Asperger's spouse is willing to act on the NT's stated needs, the partnership can work. The partners can find fulfillment together.

Does it mean saying goodbye to romance? Perhaps. Or, perhaps it means changing one's idea of what romance is. Does it mean having to come out and say what you mean and mean what you say? Most definitely. And that isn't a bad thing in any relationship.

We currently have the best selection of candidates for Presidents of my lifetime in memory. I am happy with John McCain being the likely Republican Candidate. I am thrilled to have either Barack or Hillary be our next President of our United States.

I was positive that Al Gore would be president. I knew for many years that the 2008 race would be between Hillary and Rudy of NY. I now know that I do not know. I am elated that the end of an error will be 1/20/09, with no chance of it being replaced by another mistake. I fervently hope for a new era of change. It is time for my generation to lead.

Up to 5769 ה'תשס"ט

Today is the most important day of the year. It is a day we reflect on the year that has just past. I will also reflect on my new era of these past 3.75 years. I am still being born, and discovering life. I finally have a home, a community, financial security, stability, consistency, and peace. I have not only discovered what a vacation means, but am experiencing a permanent one.

I have discovered the delight and relaxation of swimming, floating on my back, and looking up at the palm trees, clouds, and sunny blue sky. I have discovered that I can float on the water and breath, without moving my limbs! With my first goggles, I can see underwater! With wax, I can keep water out of my ears! Swimming is so soothing, yet invigorating! It is a great remedy to the excruciating stress at work!

After years, for the past six weeks, I have finally forced myself, and discovered that I can have the built-in pool all to myself every Monday and Tuesday late morning or noon! I am so glad I have been getting this exercise on two of my days off every week for at least the past six weeks! I found, and played with a cute frog the other week! It is amazing that it can do everything a frog can do, even though it was only the size of my thumbnail! I suppose it could live off the dead mosquitoes on the water surface. Then perhaps it would be eaten by a bird etcetera. The pool area is a pleasure since new stone flooring was put down on the cabana, veranda, spa, and pool-rim.

Burritos are my favorite food dish since lasagna! Chipolte, and my one-month Roommate Steve introduced it to me. I enjoy buying all of the ingredients, and making them fresh for myself! Even salsa was a new introduction to me three years ago as my favorite condiment!

Seven (7) years ago, I purchased my first cell phone, digital camera, and received my first Palm. Today I have a Palm device that includes and replaces all three! I also received a pair of wayfarer eye-shields seven years ago. All of four of these were from The Wiz. I have now lost these, along with my first and only two pairs of prescription eye-shields that I ever owned, during these 3.75 years.

I have progressively been feeling younger. I am the same exact age as Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Ellen Degenerous. Those are three of my favorite people. To quote NY Magazine: When Michael Jackson is 50; you know that you are old! How fitting, that NASA and AARP were first created when I was born! Now I live near NASA, and first qualify to be a member of AARP!

Bill Mahr is two years old than I, and one of my heroes. His views, beliefs, values, and attitude is nearly identical to mine! I now take 13 pills from two pillboxes each day for medical reasons! My parents lived through the Depression. One of which is still alive. I am glad to be employed during these times. Fortunately, my 401K has twenty years to recuperate. I love my new lifestyle!

1 last year, then 8 more years!

The deceiving despot of Dick Cheny's independent subversive government, who has helped to destroy our world for eight years will be leaving office one year from tomorrow. Then we will have the second eight more years of Hill and Bill back in Capitol Hill. The BUllSHit will be out of the White House. "W" is for Woman and White house. Florida will start bringing Hillary back home on January 20, 2009. We will return to positive change. The bushes will finally be uprooted from the White House. It will be the end of an error, and the beginning of a new ERA. I look forward to the Clinton/Richardson administration.

MARriage 2.0 = 02.02.2010 CE

The legal contract of "Mar" and &rew is planned to be executed on February 02, 2010 of the common era. Consequently, my partner's name will change to Mar Lerner. I am devoid of romance, and not exited. Marriage to me, has never been something I needed, wanted and has little meaning. It is an event to be put in the task list and calender of my Palm Phone PDA. However it gives Mar comfort, security and happiness. It gives her Sister and Niece tremendous excitement, happiness, and the joyful opportunity to plan this gay social event. This is fine since I care little for social events, and find them to be a depressing and unpleasant chore.

We met on the Internet, and by our then common employer for Roommate reasons. I have been good at choosing excellent Roommates. A risk of this is, she may fall in love with and marry me. Eviction is then not possible. Moving out is not an option since I am the landlord. Thoughts turned to marriage after I was laid off. Being unemployed is an ironic time for marriage, and an expensive comprehensive re-furnishing of my home. However, if my COBRA runs out, I can be covered under my wife's coverage! Whether I will save a whole bunch of money on my car insurance after marriage, remains to be seen. Mar also wants me buy a circular piece of metal for her finger.

This merger announcement is exclusive to the Internet via facebook and blogspot. Merger 1 took place in the Star Trek universe. Being engaged to her reminds me of Jean-Luc Picard, when he says "Engage" and "Resistance is futile. We will be assimilated." "As an Aspie, I can not be assimilated." Also, I am Agnostic. Bill Mahr is the name that comes to mind when I use "Mar" to describe my roommate or partner. I identify with him more than any other celebrity.

My future spouse may become Jewish, along with the rest of her family. It has been brought to my attention that Jews are not married during the Sabbath. I prefer to start a day with an important event. For this and other reasons, the date has been changed from 01.23 to 01.17 to my favorite day of 02.02.

Mar and I are comfortable, compatible, care for, and enjoy each-others company. It appears that this is the definition of love. Since we are probably going to live with another for the longevity of our lives, marriage does not seem so impractical. It is comforting to know I need not worry about the task of finding a partner.

I plan to find vows that accurately and honestly express my feelings and intentions. My pontification of the anonymous contributor leads me to guess someone born in 1958. I will now crave to someday learning the true identity of the author.

I appreciate feedback #4 (why Anonymous?) and the discussion that is ensuing. I will be addressing, in a new post planned for 7/9, a continuing battle that comment #3 illustrates. I am constantly not given enough credit. My intelligence and emotions often exceed other's perceptions.
