My Mother and her Mother

This is a picture of my Mother Edythe Miriam, and her Mother Ana, probably in the 1930ies. I am named after Ana, years after she passed away. My Mother passed away on this date, September 19, three years ago today. She was born in 1918. I was born in 1958. My father was born on May 19, 1915, and lives in Florida.

I have known no other person in this universe that has personified these qualities more. She prided herself at being sharp and lucid, and was never otherwise. I have no other personality, spirit, or being that loves me more than my mother of whom I am telling you about now. She is my greatest advocate and supporter by far, ever. I love my mother more than I love anyone. Edith Miriam Aronow Lerner made the transition from her physical body to her current existence, at about 8pm, on the day corresponding to Thursday, September 19, 2002. She communicated to me telepathically while I was just starting to watch an anticipated TV show of Big Brother. She told us of this predicted date four days prior. She has made the transition with her mother Ana, of whom I am named for. I helped bury her body with soil from Israel on 9/23/02.

I am grateful for having had the opportunity to verbally, visually, and physically communicate with her during the preceding week. I thanked her, and made it clear that I love her also. My life is forever profoundly changed from this point on. After my life it will be easier and more vibrant to be in communication with her again. I have nobody else in my life with such warmth and caring. It is very hard to accept and go on without the inhabited animated body that brought me life. I have felt such a special warm and unique soul connection with her. This extraordinary person has helped make this world beautiful. I do not have knowledge of a more beautiful being than her. Humanity on earth will not be the same without her. It would be a much warmer and caring world if more people were like her.

Edith Miriam Aronow came into this living world on June 14, 1918. She has seen this world making the transition to telephone communication, and has communicated on the World Wide Web. She joined her partner in life on March 15, 1943. With Bert Lerner, she gave life to Bernice on December 7, 1946,Richard Elliot on May 6, 1949, and myself, on February 21, 1958. During September 2002, she was able to meet with her entire family. This includes five grand children and one special great grand child. They are as follows: Jeffrey Ian 4/30/1973, Jennifer Kim 1/5/1977, Alison Beth 10/6/1978, Alan Howard 10/29/1980, Joseph Paul 10/29/1980, and Dorothy Rose 1/16/2000. All of these people and more are whom Edith cares more about than anything else. She loves all living beings. We are and will be in touch. She is and forever will be, my greatest friend.

I am only available to talk on the telephone between 3:40pm and 8:30pm through Friday, or between 7am and 9pm, on Saturday. Starting Sunday, I can be reached anytime except between 10am and 6:40pm every day. I am available anytime on Tuesday and Wednesday. You can record a voice mail for me.

Edith Miriam, Flag Day, 6/14/1918

1918 is the year my mother was born. Her father, and my my maternal grandfather, Bernard is shown below. I guess he obtained this souvenir in France in 1918, and it is one of the few of her cherished possessions that my mother was able to protect from being discarded. I wish I knew of my mother's family.

Today is my mother's birthday of 90 years ago. This is Flag day. I was born in 1958, 40 years later. I believe I am the first one to be born in Long Island. I believe my Mother was born, and grew up in The Bronx . Her father died when she was 11 or 12. He was born in Lithuania. Her mother was born in Hungary, and died before I was born. Consequently, I am named Andrew after her name of Ana.

Andrew I. Lerner remembers his mother today. It was on this day, in 2002, that she passed away in Florida. She was born Edith Miriam, in 1918 NYC. She passed away at the start of Big Brother, my favorite TV show at the time. The concept of George Orwell's "Big Brother" gave her the "willies". Perhaps FaceBook is the manifestation of this Big Brother concept. I was born FORTY (40) years later, in 1958. The period of my extreme youth, is documented the the AMC TV program "Mad Men" which is on tonight at 10pm and at 11pm EDS. 9pm Central time. The above picture was taken at my Bar Mitzva on Feb. 21 , 1971, in Syosset. In the rear, and on the left, can be seen the Grandfather of Jeff and Alison Wernick. This was also the Year that Lois Labowitz got married to my brother. Lois and her family, including in Syosset and NYC, are mourning the loss of another Edith who also passed away this month, also in the lower-east side of Florida, originally in NYC. I moved to Florida from NYC in 2005, two years after my mother was laid to rest here. Lois, her Mother, Richard, and I were the only ones at our Father's funeral in Florida 2008.

Andrew Irving Lerner (1958 to present) was born in Roslyn, Long Island*, New York, U.S.A. On February 21, 1958, the peace sign was also born. Father Bert was a CPA IRS Agent, born in 1915, in a Jewish Ghetto, technically part of Poland. Mother Edith was born in 1918, in The Bronx, in NYC. Colleges attended, were S.U.N.Y. @ Farmingdale, and Borough of Manhattan C. C. I Graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia C. C. of C.U.N.Y. in 1987. I earned an A.A.S. in Computer Information systems. Odie Zephron was a Whippet/Sheppard mix, adopted in 1987. Marriage was to Laurie Neil Vaiana, via the Star Trek Fan club, on 7/18/92. Richard was Best Man.

I was living in Queens since John Lennon’s death on 12/7/1979. I worked at Fortunoff* and Hoffritz for Cutlery (defunct). I purchased 2 cooperative apartments. The first was a 2.5 room studio in Rego Park in 1986. The second, in 1992, was a 3.5 room in Bellerose with Laurie and Odie. After renting out my former home to problem tenants a few years, I sold my shares, to instead own one home free and clear.

Jobs included Computer Operations Clerk, Driving Instructor, Bank Teller, Cashier, Pizza delivery, and Retail Counselor. Longest employers of 2-3 years included Manufacturers Hanover Bank, Bed Bath, & Beyond, and Circuit City*. I purchased my first brand new car, 1999 Escort. I resigned these 2 jobs to work at Gateway* and The Wiz*, who closed their stores within two years. He missed his last day at The Wiz, flying to Florida. Mother died days later on 9/19/2002. This was during my separation (divorced 5/9/03). I brought Odie to die on 6/3/04 with Richard. A buyer for the one-B.R. was found at the end of 2004. The losses of these three, once-greatest friends, jobs, & leaving NY, provided great empowerment & relief. I started www.andrewlerner.blogspot.com.

On 01/05/05, I sold my only home, and drove to Florida near Orlando. My current two-bedroom, two-bath condominium in Lake Mary, was purchased in cash, on 5/31/05. The second bedroom was rented out during my longest employer, at a call center one mile away. During that time, I was empowered by finding my Aspie identity. I am now pursuing my 35 year interest in Graphic Design. On 12/01/08 my nemesis father, and greatest economic benefactor, died alone near my sister in Florida. “I met my last Roommate, the previous month, from Craigs-List and Convergys. After 3.5 years, I was laid off from Convergys on 02/23/09. *Fortunoff and Circuit City close during this time.

I continue to receive Unemployment benefits. I am further taking advantage of the Stimulus bill, Pell Grant and inheritance. I replaced with brand new, the following: my furniture, refrigerator, wardrobe, 2010 RAV4, added 2 PCs, 3HDs, Colbert Cat, joined gym, + hired personal trainer. I have found LOVE in FLOrida, and also by adding a _VE below FL. I married my Roommate on 02/02/10. Richard was the only non-Floridian to attend our wedding.

I am currently in college towards a Bachelors degree, to pursue my first career. 56 jobs at age 52 is too much. This is also due to the persecution, discrimination, and intolerance suffered throughout life, due to Asperger’s Syndrome. I have never felt so secure and confident, and had as many good friends, as I do now. Ironically, Convergys continues to provide me money, insurance, and my best friends. My wife was released from Convergys 6/4/10.

I have invited people over for tortillas, pizza, wine, banana strawberry pie, beer, cheese, coffee, goldfish, vanilla and cherry diet Coca-Cola, Mountain Dew, and Dolby 5.1 music. Melissa, resigned from being my supervisor and once told me that I remind her of Data from Star Trek, TNG.

The Offspring is a name of a Rock music group I enjoy. Jeremy Benjamin Wernick was born to my Nephew Jeffrey wife Tracy on Thursday October 23, 2003. 1918 is the year my mother was born. It was also the last year the Boston Red Socks won the World Series. My mother dying may be analogous to OB1 Knobie dying from Darth Vader. The force is now stronger in me as it was for Luke. Luke's father is Darth Vader. The 100-year NY Yankees lost to the new Florida Marlins. What does this say about Florida and me? All the pesky Yankees did was interrupt my Big Brother episodes here in NY.

My Mother was last alive on this day, five years ago. She was born in 1918. Her name is Edith Miriam Lerner.

Adam: &REW ReviEW

ADAMREW: Often, during a good movie, I identify with, will feel like, and or even become the main character. In Adam, I "AM" the main character. I would prefer the name be called &rew or Aspie. However, at the end of the movie, you will see the reason for this name. As an Aspie, I will review this film from my perspective, with what I share in common with the Adam character. Adam 2009 at least met my expectations. It is a well done representation, and accurate portrayal of an Aspie. It does a successful job introducing typical people to us invisibles, who are intolerantly discriminated against. People with Aspergers Syndrome, were never in a closet. Thanks to this motion picture, they will now be more visible, and treated with the same respect and consideration that others are.

Many of the ASpects and frustrations of Aspies are brought to light. AS an ASpie introduction, this presentation was well done. Many of the situations and symptoms would vary by age and individual with A.S. I identified with many of those that were represented or documented. Except for kissing, I could not be more pleased with this introduction of us "aliens", aclimating to your strange world of NTs.

Many scenes were too subtle for NT reviewers to understand. They viewed them as extraneous or uneven. Even the unexpected ending seems an attempt to help you feel the frustration that we feel. In large part, the parallel story demonstrates the phoniness, dishonesty, and infidelity of typical people. I was surprised or disappointed that Star Trek or Mr. Spock was not mentioned. However, even many of the setting parameters matched my own real life. These would be NYC, Queens, apartment rental, new partner, science, space, electronics, computer, creativity, abuse by police, death of parents, job loss, and changing states.

The loss of job represents the intolerance, insensativity and discrimination that Aspies constantly have to contend with. The electronic voice represents stubborn creative independence. Also, this demonstrates inordinate attention to detail, and the inability to see the big picture. The space suit represents how logic does not address what might be socially inappropriate. The bed/interview dialog showed self-absorption. This is without question, the most treasured movie of my life. I definitely encourage everyone to see this picture!

1918 Alan Jay Lerner, son of the founder of Lerner stores, is born today. 1958 &rew Lerner's mother was born in 1918. A. J. Lerner will go on to become a Broadway lyricist and collaborate with Frederick Loewe on such Broadway classics as Brigadoon, My Fair Lady, and Camelot. Together they also wrote the score for the 1958 Academy Award-winning film, "Gigi."
